Challenge and Enrichment in Computing

For pupils who need more challenge in computing, this day will provide a series of extended activities focusing on computational thinking using text-based programming languages often taught at KS3, such as Python. The day will also introduce students to a variety of web-based resources and tools, to encourage independent learning online. 

This is for groups of up to 8 pupils per school and will run on the following dates:

Online Safety Interactive

Pupils will better understand how to keep themselves and others safe online by creating a digital campaign to promote online safety, with a focus on social networking. On completion, pupils will receive DigitalMe’s SAFE Certificate in Safe Social Networking.

    Digital Citizens: Understanding the Internet

    We are all citizens of the Internet. In this workshop pupils learn how information can be shared between networks across the world through the Internet, and get to grips with the basics of HTML – the language of the World Wide Web.

    Lego WeDo Robots

    In this session, pupils use Lego Wedo robots to master the art of algorithms. First they carefully and accurately follow a set of instructions in order to successfully build their model. Then they create instructions of their own using Wedo’s programming interface, designed to teach children the basics of programming and debugging. Pupils also discover the ways that motors and sensors can be used and controlled to help electronic devices function.

    Robot Challenge

    In this session, pupils use age appropriate Lego EV3s robots to master the art of algorithms. They get to grips with Lego’s programming software, Mindstorms, which is specifically designed to teach children the basics of programming and debugging. They also learn about the ways that motors and sensors can be used and controlled to help electronic devices function
