The CLC week in brief 15th – 19th June
It was busy start to the week – Monday saw St Mark’s CE year 6 getting to grips with computer networks, Ashmole year 4 completing some tricky Robot Challenges and two year 2 classes from Lark Hall using microscopes to explore patterns in nature and create their own digital prints. Meanwhile Joe was in La Retraite Secondary school working with teachers using Python.
On Tuesday Julian’s Primary kicked off our series of mini-projects with the National Portrait Gallery, visiting the gallery to look at differents styles of portraiture before coming to the CLC and creating digital self-portraits in Photoshop. Over at Maytree Nursery, Sue lead the Family Forest course taking learning outside of the classroom for children and their parents.
On Wednesday our New to Computing Leadership group attended their final session at Crown Lane primary observing lessons such as telling the chronological narrative of the Napoleonic wars and Battle of Britain with Puppet Pals, Kodu, film literacy and keyboard skills. The group also shared practice for using digital portfolios and blogs to evidence computing. Rowan launched our very first Minecraft after school club at St Jude’s Primary and Sarah attended the NESTA Digital Education Showcase at London Technology Week and Suki attended the Brighton TeachMEET.
20 NQT’s from Julian’s Primary descended on the CLC this Thursday for some our ‘Computing Across the Curriculum CPD’ looking at apps to enhance learning and Marie was at Henry Cavendish continuing our 6 week Digital Stories course for families.
Wrapping up the week on Friday with year 3 from Sunnyhill making their own computer games in Scratch, while teachers from our Scratch Maths research project attended their second CPD session. Finally Adam headed over to Streatham CC to work with the Polish grandparents and parents taking part in our Active Citizens course – this week exploring the vocabulary for morning routine through Wallace and Gromit.
